THE MACKELVIE PICTURES.
Sir, —A good deal of adverse criticism lias been levelled at Mr. Fayton s purchase of pictures for the Maekclvio collection. I visited the pictures and should like to take this opportunity of thanking Mr. Fayton for the intense pleasure they gave me, two or three only excepted. It was a great relief not to he confronted with ultra-modern hideousness. There may ho some peoplo who would like Auckland's collodion of works of art to include even a chunk of Epstein, hut I confess I am not one of them. Dorothea Forester.
