POWER BOARDS MERGER.
WAIRERE AMD WAITOMO
SCHEME BEING CONSIDERED
[FROM OCR OWN COKRESI'ONDENT.] TE KUITI, Saturday, At the monthly meeting of tho Wairero Power Board reports from (ho secretaries and engineers of tho two boards dealing with the proposed amalgamation with Waitomo were received. It was estimated that provision for the transmission of 600 k.v.a, from either board to tho other would cost £11,852. This estimate was based on the transmission of 700 k.v.a. at 11,000 volts. Tho estimate did not provide for tho installation of voltage regulators, which would provido for an extra 100 k.v.a. The above outlay would result in standing charges amounting to £1767 per annum, plus a further £2OO, which should be reserved for extra attendance, etc. It was estimated that tho saving in costs from amalgamation would amount to £l2lß. It was anticipated that if permission were given tho Wairere Board to develop further power in its area the amalgamation proposal would bo a payable proposition, but further estimates would first bo required. The Waitomo Board is to be approached with a view to representatives" being appointed to interview the Minister of Public Works in connection with the proposal.
