THEFTS FROM MOTOR-CARS.
OFFENDER AT WHANGAREI. SIX MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT. [I!Y TELEGIIAFIT. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI. Monday. Charges of stealing a cycle, two travelling rugs, a scarf and a pair of ladies' shoes were made in tho Police Court 'to-day against Alfred Derbyshire.
Senior Sergeant Powell said accused came from Auckland, where he had arrived as a stowaway front Australia recently. The articles were taken from parked cars and the cycle from outside an office. Accused was attempting to sell it. Accused said he was under the influence of liquor and he wnuld sooner starve than steal.
Tim magistrate, Mr. G. N. Morris, remarked that accused's record did not bear out. that statement. Accused was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
