HOCKEY.
AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. OPENING OF THE SEASON. The first, matches of the Auckland hockey season will he played to-morrow and supporters of the game will be given an opportunity to judge the respective merits of the teams which have been entered for the Davis Cup competition. The use of the Western Springs Stadium grounds has been secured for tiro of the senior grade matches, the third being played at Remuera. Chief interest will centre in the game between Somerville and Mount Eden at Western Springs at three o'clock, but the match between St. Luke's and University, on the same ground at 1.50, should also be a keen tussle The Wesley team will be given an opportunity to show its new strength in its match against North Shore on No. 2 ground at Remuera at three o'clock.
