FORMER MAYOR DEFEATED. SUCCESS OF MR. W. F. STILWELL WIN IN TRIANGULAR CONTEST. At Mount Albert Mr. W. F. Stilwell defeated I.he former Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, by 720 votes. The third candidate for the Mayoralty was Mr. J. H, Langley, a former member of the council, who was re-elected to the council again yesterday. Mr. Rhodes, had been Mayor for four successive terms. In all 5174 votes were cast out of a roll number of 9185. Details of the poll are as follows: —
'Members of old council. Of the four candidates for the council who stood in support of Mr. Stilwell's ticket three wore elected. They aro Messrs. R. Ferner, P. Floyd and F. A. Jarrett. The unsuccessful one was Mr. T. J. Spry. ONEHUNGA RESULTS. FOUR NEW COUNCILLORS. The Mayor of Onehunga, Mr. E. Morton, has been re-elected for a second term of office. He gained a decisive victory over his opponent, Mr. J. E. Green. Fifteen candidates contested the nine seats on the council, the five members of the retiring council who sought re-election being successful. There are 5092 electors on the roll, but only 2895 voted. Details of the poll are as follows:
DEVONPORT BOROUGH. FORMER MAYOR'S DEFEAT. A majority of 128 votes was secured by Mr. H. F. W. Meikle in defeating the former Mayor of Devonport, Mr. J. Hislop. Mr. Meikle received more supporters than his opponent at five of the seven booths, principally because of the solid voting secured by the Devonport Property Holders' Association, which was behind the candidature of the new Mayor. Only three of the old council members sought reelection, two, Messrs. E. H. Little and G. Falla, gaining seats. The election was a triumph for the Property Holders' Association, which gained seven of the nine council seats, Air. J. Curtayne heading the poll. The interest ia the election was only fair, there being about 2900 voters from a roll containing nearly 5400 names. Greatest interest was shown in the mayoral contest, Mr. Meikle's success being greeted with enthusiasm by a large assembly of his supporters. Details of the poll are as follows: —
