SWIMMING CONTESTS.
PRIMARY SCHOOL CARNIVAL CHAMPIONSHIPS CONCLUDED. MANY FINE PERFORMANCES. The annual championship swimming and life-saving carnival of the Auckland primary schools was concluded at the Tepid Baths last evening. There was again an exceptionally large attendance. The competitions had .been restricted the previous day to the "semi-final and final events, Jiut so numerous had been the entries that last evening's programme was a long and interesting one. The .organisation was perfect and there was not a moment's delay. The school championships were won as follows:—Swimming—Boys: Kowliai, 1; Dilworth, 2. Girls: Normal and Curran Street, 1, equal; Vauxhall, 2. Life-saving —Boys: Stanley Bay. Girls: Point Chevalier.
Both tho swimming and the life-saving were of a very high standard and in practically every event tho standard times as set by the New Zealand Swimming Associafion were broken, No fewer than five Auckland primary school records were broken. The most outstanding performance was that of V. Clare (Curran Street), who, in the 60yds. girls' breaststroke, lowered the record of 495, which she established the previous day, to 48 l-ss. The previous record was 53 3-ss,
