MEMBER CHARGED.
FRAUD ON GOVERNMENT.
TICKETS WRONGLY USED. LONDON. Feb. 6. Sir. Mardy Jones, who has resigued his seat as Labour M.P. for Pontypridd, and his wife, pleaded guilty at Marylebone Polico Court to tho improper use of Government vouchers for travelling on the railways and were fined 40s. The magistrate declared that it .was a disgraceful case for a member of Parliament to be involved in.
Mr. Jones was charged with wilfully transferring non-transferable tickets to his wife and aiding and abetting his wife to travel by the railway without previously paying her fare. Prosecuting counsel said,/ the tickets wore obtained on Government warrants and were for members of Parliament and not their relatives. Mrs. Jones handed in a ticket at the barrier at Pontypridd dated December 19, but the date was written in a different pencil by her husband, said counsel.
When tho police visited Mr. Jones he admitted his indiscretion.
