JAPANESE MOTOR-SHIP.

SETTLEMENT" OF DISPUTE. WORK NOW* IN PROGRESS. SAILING FIXED FOR TO-DAY. The dispute regarding the unloading oi tho Japanese motor-ship Brisbane Marii at Auckland was settled on Saturday morning. Work on the cargo on board was commenced shortly after .an agreement had been reached between the. local agents of the motor-ship and the officials of the Seamen's Union and Waterside Workers' Union.

The union officials agreed to work the Brisbane Mara on a signed understanding being given by the representatives .of the company that all cargo on board shipped at Melbourne for New Zealand . ports shall not be discharged in New Zealand. It was also agreed that all the shipments from New Zealand ports to., Australia shall not be loaded on the Brisbane Maru. A call was made for labour at 9 a.m. on Saturday and work was started a little later. It is expected that cargo operations, in accordance with the agreement, will be completed this afternoon, and the vessel is scheduled to sail for Melbourne at 3 p.m. From Australia she will return to Japan.

The Brisbane Maru arrived at Wellington from Japan and Eastern ports, via Australia, on February 1, but owing to the vessel having brought cargo from Australia for New Zealand the waterside workers at Wellington refused to discharge the cargo, the reason given being that the vessel was subsidised by the Jap< anese Government and was interfering: with the intercolonial cargo trade to thfl detriment of New Zealand seamen.

After being delayed at Wellington for four days the vessel sailed for Auckland last Wednesday evening. She reached Auckland on Friday, but was again delayed by the dispute until the agreement was reached on Saturday morning.
