CONSTABLE OBSTRUCTED.
GREY'S AVENUE INCIDENT
LABOURER SENT TO GAOL,
" We cannot have this type of lawlessness hern," said Mr. W. 11. Woochvard, S.M., in the Police Court on Saturday when Esmond Basil William McCorkindale, aged 34, labourer, was charged with obstructing a constable in the course of his duty, and also with assaulting him.
Constable Pretious staled that after he had taken a man into custody in Grey's Avenue on Friday evening, accused rushed up to him, pinioned his arms by pulling witness' overcoat over his head and forced him to let go his prisoner. Witness secured McCorkindnle who, although sotno what under the influence of liquor, was able to " put up a good fight."
Accused, who said he had been drunk and remembered nothing about the incident, was convicted and sentenced to three months' imprisonment on the obstruction charge and was convicted and discharged on the second count.
