SHRINKAGE IN PAST YEARS. RETURNS OF TAXATION. (Received December ?9. 7.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 28. There were 511 persons with incomes of 1,000,000 dollars (£200,000) or more •who paid income taxes in 1928. This was an increase of 221 over the previous year, and represented the peak of American prosperity. The number of incomes of 1,000,000 dollars in 1929 and 1930 is expected to 6how / ' a very sharp shrinkage. In 1928 26 persons had incomes of 5,000,000 dollars or more and 186,000,000 dollars were paid in'income taxes during 'that year. In the whole country 2,523,000 persons reported total incomes of 25,226,000,000 dollars, and 268,000 corporate bodies reported incomes of 10,617,000,000 dollars.
