SPORT WITH BIG FISH.
TWO . LARGE MAKO SHARKS, SPECIMEN WEIGHING 593L8. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] RUSSELL. Monday. A mako shark weighing 5211b. was caught off Cape Brett on Saturday by Mr. G. Ellis, of Russell, when fishing with Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Adamson from the launch Reliance. The fish broached eight times and fought for an hour and 35 minutes before being landed. Mr. Lee Ridge, of Remuer.i, fishing from Deep Water Cove in the launch Jean, caught a fine mako shark of 5931b. The fish was lift, long arid gave a fine display for over two hours, leaping high into the air several times. It was the heaviest fish caught this season.
Mr. Peter Gardner, of Kamo, fishing from the launch Haeta, caught a mako weighing 1431b., and Mr. L. L. Bird, of Whangarei, landed a mako weighing 30131b.
Mr. White Wickham, of London, has arrived at the fishing grounds.
