AFTERNOON AT HOME.

METHODIST GUILD. j To mark tho closing of tho St. John's Methodist Women's Guild's activities for this year an enjoyable Hostesses' At Homo was held in tho school hall, Ponsonby Road, yesterday afternoon. The guild's president, Mrs. Geo. Erost, who presided, extended a cordial welcomo to all present. Under tho skilful hands of Miss Wilson, the guild's representative on tho church trust board, tho hall was beautifully decorated with foliage, Iceland poppies and other varieties of golden-hucd flou'ers. It was divided into nine miniature reception rooms, where tho different groups of hostesses dispensed afternoon tea to their respective guests. Tho hostesses were:—Mrs. Geo. Erost and Miss Tickner, Mrs. S. L. Hirst, Mrs. H. T. Buckley, Mr.'.. Goo. Smith, Mrs. Methorell and Miss Froude, Mrs. W. F. llaidley and Mrs. 12. Jackson, Mrs. It. Wado and Mrs. M. L. Braithwaite, Miss Morey and Miss Vealo, Mrs. E. E. Pierce, Mrs. Coad, Mrs. Stoodley, Mrs. W. A. Cooke, Miss Cooke and Miss McMonigal. A delightful programme arranged by Miss F. Cooke, comprising pianoforto solos by Mrs. R. Reed, vocal items by Mrs. Stebbing, Mrs. do Berg and Mr. Rodger Enington, elocutionary items by Maisie | Free and instrumental items by Miss F. | Cooke, Mrs. Bridgons, Miss Dorothy I Guthrio and Mr. Beg. Pawson, was | greatly appreciated. During tlio afternoon Mrs. S. L. Hirst, I tho guild's senior vice-president, pre- I sented to the guild its motto, beautifully framed: "Our Strength—Unity; Our Aim—Service." On behalf of the members of tho guild, and particularly the parsonage house committee, Mrs. W. A. Cooke expressed great appreciation to all guests for their presence and kindly gifts, i a portion of which will bo spent in making tho minister's home rnoro attractive. Mrs. Frost thanked all who had helped to make the afternoon such a success. ; There was a large attendance of guild ' members and ladies of tho congregation | and among visiting guests entertained j were:—Mrs. Bond, Mrs. Blomfield and j Mrs. Nenle, tho guild's first, president, secretary and treasurer; Mrs. F. 11.
