SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS.
ANNUAL MEETING HELD. PENSION SYSTEM DISCUSSED. The annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the South African War Veterans' Association was held last evening, the president, Major T. P. Halpin. presiding. The report and balance-sheet showed that the association was in a sound financial position. Lieutenant-Colonel E. G. Eraser was .elected president and Major T. P. Halpin and Captain Algie vice-presidents. The president was appointed delegate to the annual conference in Wellington. Lieutenant-Colonel Fraser was elected * life member of the association in recognition of services rendered. It was decided to make representations to the Government with regard to reducing the old age pension qualification from 65 years to 60 years in the case of South African War veterans and other returned soldiers when disability occurs. A remit was passed that the Government be urged to extend the South African War pension to all who had served in South Africa, irrespective of whether tliev belonged to a New Zealand unit of not.
