GREAT JUMPING DISPLAY.

One of those surprises which add zest to racing, oven if they puzzle the looker-on. was provided in the Napier Steeplechase to-day. Flying Swift, who had been hopelessly beaten last Saturday at Hastings, gave a superb exhibition of jumping, and spreadeagled thu field in, :i fast-run race. Puniola. who was a hot favourite, pulled up lame in his near foreleg, and it looks as if the ligament has gone. Red Bank and Hundy made the running early, from Birkbeck and Nukumai. The last time round Flying Swift showed the way down the back from Red Bank and Nukumai. Birkbeck showed up momentarily four furlongs from home. For the rest of the way it was all Flying Swift, who was full of running, and won by 15 lengths from Nukumai who beat Red Bunk by 10 lengths. Birkbeck was a length away fourth. Ponjola beat Handy home. Flying Swift'a display cannot bo described as other than impressive. Nukumai and Red Bank both , hit the post and rail fence hard at the back of the course, and this did not improve their chances. Nukumai looked very bright, however, and he should pay his way. As a two-year-old Paul Caret raced four times for two wins and a fourth. He won the Juvenile Selling Plate at Alexandra Park, when bo waa bought ui by S. Wootton for 1115 guineas, and also the Wicken Two-year-old Selling Plate, after which he was sold to Mi-. W. 11. Singer for 1450 guineas. Last season as a three-year-oid ho won the Castle Handicap, 1} miles, and the Windsor Handicap, 1} miles, at Windsor, and the October Handicap, J J miles, at Haydock Park. On Hay H last Paul Caret ran second to Mountain Lad in the Chester Cup, about 21 miles. Buoyant Bachelor was third in the Ascot Stakes, two miles, on Juno 17 Last season he had oniy four races, winning the Haydock Park Handicap, 1-J miles, and running second in the Queen's Prize, at Kempton Park, the Churchill Stakes, and the Northumberland Plate, all two-mile races. Last season Old Orkney won the Ascot Stakes, two miles, and tlio Goodwood Cup. about two miles five furlongs, defeating Brown .Tack by a short head on each occasion. In the Newbury Autumn Cup, about two miles one furlong, he ran a dendr heat with Shmv Girl, who last Wednesniy ■won the Northumberland Plate. PINK COAT'S PROGRESS. POSSIBLE AUSTRALIAN VISIT. Pink Coat has grown into a very bit: horso. ovor 17 hands, and baa filled out in proportion, a Southern writer says. Pink Coat iiaa been pottering about on the tracks for the past six weeks, and; the fetlock which caused his retirement at tho beginning of this season appears to be standing up well. Just now ho is suffering from a Little tenderness in the near shoulder, but hia trainer, E. J. Ellis, of Timaru. does not think there in anything seriously wrong there, and has hopes of fulfilling an Australian trip with this good-looking son of Hunting Song He intends trying him out first during tho next few weeks before coming to a definite decision.
