HIGHER TAXES INEVITABLE. CANBERRA, June 24. The Federal Cabinet is considering an extension of the rationing system to all the public service departments. A scheme of one week off in 11, with reductions Jin travelling and other allowances would save more than £750,000 a year." Increased taxation is said to be inevitable. An aggregate deficit of £9,000,000 for the Commonwealth and States is expected. As the continued State deficits have had a serious effect on Australia's credit abroad the Federal Treasurer, Mr. E. G. Theodore, has appealed to the State Governments to balance their Budgets in tho coming financial year.
