COAL FROM NEWCASTLE.
REVIVAL OF THE TRADE.
SEVEN COLLIERS ENGAGED.
The settlement of the coal strike in Now South Wales has been followed by a revival of the intercolonial coal trade and already seven colliers have been commissioned in tho Newcastle-New Zealand service. During the strike only an occasional cargo of Australian coal reached New Zealand from Port Kembla, where the mines were not concerned in the strike, and consequently a number of colliers wore idle. Some of the vessels recommissioned for tho Newcastle coal trade are the Union Company's colliers Kekerangu, Kurow, Gabriella, Kaiwarra, Kaimiro and Kaponga, and the Melbourne steamship Company's steamer Mernoo. Tho first of these steamers to reach New Zealand from Newcastle since the strike ended was-the Kekerangu, which arrived at Lyttelton on Monday. Her coal cargo is for discharge at Lyttelton and Timaru. Tho Mernoo reached Wellington on Tuesday and will discharge at Wellington and Lyttelton. Tho Kaiwarr* arrived at Auckland yesterday and will unload all her cargo at this port. To-day tho Kurow is duo at Wellington and the Gabriella at Wanganui, each vessel being fully loaded with Newcastle coal. Tho othor two steamers, the Kaponga and Kaimiro, are loading at Newcastle, tho Kaponga for Napier and the Kaimiro for Wellington.
