NEW PICTURE THEATRE.
BUILDING AT OTAHUHU.
Tenders are soon to bo cnlled for tho erection in Otahuhu of a picture tlicatro with seven shops attacked.'. It is estimated that tlie theatre itself will cost £25,000. Wans for the building, wcro first proparod two years ago, but it.was ■decided not to proceed with its erection until tho success of talking pictures had become definitely assured. Tho seven shops and main entrance to the theatre will form a frontage to tho Great (South , Road of 1001't., between Station Uoad and Queen Street. Tho theatre will accommodate 1600 peoplo, 858 on tho ground floor and 642 in tho circle. A loungo running almost the full length of . f,hy auditorium on one side tvill bo one of tho most, distinctive features of the theatre. Access to another lounge above Will bo given by a marble stairway, 20fL. wide, with entrances to tho balcony at two levels. , Tho proscenium and arch, with boxes on either side, are designed to produce a striking effect. The panelled'and'viuilted arch will be elaborated bv a pierced 'design, and will have its effect heightened by subdued lighting. Tho stage will be 80ft. wide, with a depth of 30ft. Further provision for the.comfort of tho audioneo will bo mndo by tho installation of an electrical heating system and forced ventilation. The architect is Mr. A. Siucluir O'Connor.
