OAMARU PROSPECTS. SATISFACTORY FIELDS, SOME PROMISING HORSES. [fiY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The acceptances received for tho Oamaru Trotting Club's meeting to be held on Saturday are quite satisfactory and the fields are plenty big enough to make the task of speculators at least interesting. Hie one exception is tho AVaikaura Handicap for unhoDpled trotters, but tbis is not surprising, .for there was an opinion among owners that the race was a 4.45 and not a, 4.55 limit. Tho result was that many horses were nominated that should not have been and others who would have been in their right, class were not entered. There are IS horses left in the Advance Handicap and all are on the limit, 3.10. Tho prospect of giving away starts to fastimproving young horses did not appeal to owners of the more-seasoned horses and now that Mr. H. A. Jnrden, the handiciippnr, has finished his job the icst is left to tho starter, Mr. ,T. 11. Tomkins, and his task is not to be envied. The luck of the draw will count a good deal in this race, for thero will probably be three divisions, and those drawing the front line will have the advantage. "With 19 horses engaged in the-President's Handicap there is the prospect of a good race, but as nine of these are on the limit it seems that the winner will corno from this division, which includes several pacers of which the best has not been seen. Salient, Sonoma, Erin's Fortune and Neeoro aro all useful and farther back in the .handicap aro Nelson, de Oro, Jolly Pel. Wrackeen and Great Logan, all with favourable prospects. If time were to bo taken as the only guide in tho matter of selecting winners the chance -,f Derby Pointer in the Advance Handicap would appeal as second to none, for he is set to do 3,40, while at the Ashburton meeting on April 2G he went 3.2G for tho milo and a-lialf. It should also be remembered that Glenville. who finished second a neck behind Derry Pointer in 3.20 1-5, is also on 3.40 and others engaged are quite capable of improving a good deal on what they are set to do. In tho principal event, Sonoma, with a record of 4.32 2-5 against his. name, is engaged on 4.30. but since njaking his fast Time ho has been beaten several times 9(1 4,30. At one period the actual time "registered could "be taken as a guide, both in handicapping and in the selection of winners, but nowadays it is very unreliable. Hudson, is anxious to have these figures against the name o[ his colt, • and it is possible that an effort will be made one day next week to establish a new ;e----cord. AddingUn is generally regarded as a faster track than Forbury Park, and with good weather and track conditions, Todd Lonzia will be given every opportunity. SEASON'S FIXTURES.
