THE SEA AS AN OCCUPATION.

Sir, —It was stated in the Herald that a member of the Navy League had said that he beard from Lvttelton that scarcely one boy per year, took up the sea as an occupation. Jt may be so down there, but up here it seems to be a little different. At least, Ido riot know how many lake it up, but I do know that some try to. I, and others, have unsuccessfully tried to get a posU tion in most of the well-known companies' steamers. The result is the same. Leave address at the office and they will let us know when there is a vacancy. How can the New Zealand boys lie expected to go for a sea life when there is probably a vacancy once in five years ? H. L. lleatiet.
