[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCTTURCn, Saturday.
Fine weather prevailed• for training operations nt Riccarton to-day. Owing to the present lull in racing fixtures thero was r.o fast work of interest, hut matters should liven lip next week, in view of the Ashburton and Dunedin meetings. Riccarton stables are strongly representedin the nominations for the Dunedin Winter Meeting, the list, being os follo\vs:— Hyperion, Hounslow, Ranelagh, ,-Straishtcourse, Starshooter, Sapient, Thurso, Arikiv/ai, Wftterline, Kaikahu, Radiate, Great Star, ' Rascal, Subdivision, Tripaway, Aberfeldy, Amorist, Mime, Magna Chartu, Pangolin, Troiltis, Zeuxis, Audience, Bay Queen, Garvriry, Kentish Lady, .Miss Bradbury, Semper Paratus, Discourse, Full Feather, Haze and Gala Day. Gala Day (1.• Tilson) wa3 given a good schooling task over tho country at Riccarton to-day, showing a marked improvement on his previous essay. This Qnin Abbey gelding promises to develop into a useful steeplechaser, and his appearance in the hack cross-country eveh'f at Dunedin will bo followed with ihterest. Magna , CHarta, with E. Shaw in the saddle, to-day had his first schooling over tho battens since last season, jumping four hurdles in attractive style. Unfortunately lie showed' signs of lameness'oh completing his work, evidently brought about by galloping on tho hard tracks. Gold Mint proved an expensive proposition on the recent Went Coast? trip, and his' owner has decided to try hint out aH a hurdler. Ridden by L. E,vans, ho was schooled over four fences on Thursday and again to-day, on each occasion giving encouraging displays. Huntley, tho four-year-old half-brother by Clarenceus to Lancer, is destined to race over hurdles this winter, and had his first lesson over tho pony jumps to-day. Others also receiving their initial education at tho game comprise the three-year-old Royal Mac gelding in Mrs. J, Campbell's stable, and
the half-brother to Gay Jim, a etablemate of A r row mi r. Both Waterlino and Full Feather have been getting through pleasing work of late, and they should be in splendid order for their Duncdin encasements.
