■ The first shot in tho Parnell by-olcction campaign will bo fired next Tuesday «voning, when Mr. T. Blood worth, tho "Labour candidate, will address electors at •"the Eemuera Library Hall. -- Campaigning, in tho form of addressos to friends and supporters, has already •started, but nearly a fortnight will elapso beforo tho thrco candidates expected to go to the poll havo all addressed public meetings. Mr. W. A. Donald, the United .candidate, lias already addressed two meetings of supporters, and ho will speak at Green Lane to a similar audience this evening. However, ho does not expect to address a public meeting until April 22. It is considered that, as the electorate is a compact ono, there is no reason for commencing tho series of public addresses until after tho Easter holidays, which fall at tho end of next week. Faced with the task of retaining its hold on the seat the United Party is making ambitious plans for the campaign, and among the Ministers expected to speak during tho contest are the Hon. G. W. Tho dates for their appeararccs on platforms in tho electorato havo vet to be arranged. It is hoped to secure ono Minister to initiate tho active campaign, while it is probable that others will appear toward the close in an attempt to capture the interest of wavering voters on the eve of tho poll, which will take place on May 7. • Reform delegates will meet at the Remuera Library Hall this evening to choose tho official candidate from the four nominees. The aspirants for endorsement are Mr. H. R. Jenkins, Mr. J. S. Dickson, Mr. W. P. Endean and Mr. R. Glover-Clark. • Once the choice is made, the Reform Party will bo in a position to initiato an activo campaign, r The Parnell cxecutivo of tho Reform League met last evening, Mr. J. B. Paterson presiding. Tho anangemonts in connection with the selection ballot wero reviewed, and tho opinion expressed that tho' matter had been dealt with in a thoroughly constitutional and fair manner. 'A meeting of friends and supporters will be held on Saturday evening to set up working committees for the campaign. The vacancy created by the resignation of Mr. Jenkins will be gazetted to-day, And it is expected, that the writ for the election will bo issued to-morrow.
