VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB. RACE HELD TO ROCKY BAY. I CLOSE FINISHES RECORDED. Cruising and harbour races were held by the .Victoria Cruising Club on Saturday afternoon. The larger classes and launches raced to Rocky Bay. Vaiheke. and the smaller boats competed over a harbour course. The weather conditions were favourable for sailing, a wholesail breeze varying from south to south-west prevailing throughout the afternoon. All events were started from the dredge 121, moored ofT St. Mary's Bay. The officials in charge of the racing v,- C re: —Starter. Mr. O. Johnson; timekeeper, harbour races, Mr. A. Perkins; judge. Mr. G. E. Laycock; time-keepers, cruising luces, Messrs. AV. "W alsh and <T. Aiford; judge, Mr. L. A. lercel. Details arc as follows: — The only competitors in the race for launches were Arcta, Young Zealandia and Namoi. The bouts crossed the line in the order given, and before t,hey had gone very far Namoi replaced Young Zealandia, but vras unable to pass Are la. The race started at 2.30 p.m. The finishing times were:—Arcta (2m), 4h 19m 395, Namoi (9m 455), 4h 24m 435; Young Zealandia (60m), 5h 9m Us. Result.— Young Zealandia, 1; Namoi, 2. / THE KEEL YACHTS. The keel yachts were sent away to a good start. Queenie crossing the liite first, closely followed by Dolphin. Mizpali, Speedwell. Cynthia and Iris. Queenie improved Imposition on the lead to Rocky Bay, and Speedwell replaced Dolphin and Mizpah before clearing the western tide deflector. The race started at 2.40 p.m. The finishing times were:—Queenie (scr), 4h 55m 335; Speedwell (scr), 5h 1m 545; Iris (10m). 5h 13m 15s; Cynthia (12m), 5h 13m 16s: Dolphin ;21m), sli 22m 7s; Mizpah (20m), 5h 27 m 10s.

Result.—Queenie, 1; Dolphin, 2; Cynthia

The mullet boat classes were sent away together,, the 13 competitors making a pretty fight us they all made for the line at gunfire. S'tarlocli was fii'3t away, and nest, to her Matariki. Rakoa, Spray. Omafere, Starlight, Waii'ere, Marie. Mowai, Malua, Otira, Why' Not and Awaterc in that order. Star3och continued lici* lend down the harbour 1 and was closely followed by Spray. At Bean Rock, where both boats changed leaders for spinnakers. Spray was smartest with her light sail, and got away from Starloch, the latter being unable to overhaul Spray. _ The race started at 2.50 p.m. The finishing times were:—H Class: Spray (I'm), oh 4m 555: Omalcro (lim). 5h 9m 18s: Starlight (2 , .m). sli 9m 325: Starloch (scr), 5h 9m 48s; Awaterc .(2-'m), 5h 10m 2Ss; Why Not (10m), Result.—Spray, 1; Why Not, 2; Starlight. 3.

Although class L started with the 26ft. mullet bouts, a sepal-ate race was held for this class. Marie soon overhauled Rakoa, Matariki and Waircre. aud once in the lead was never headed. Malua, round the breeze to her liking, beating Marie by 11 seconds or: corrected times for first place. . THE HARBOUR RACES. Namu got the best of the in therace for class S and next over the line was llan'gitira. About a length further away came Waitoa, Aratu, Rangitiki and Sceptre. Swiftsurc was one and a-half minutes late. It was a beat up to the Watchman mark and Sceptre gradually worked her way into the lead. Passing the flagship on the completion of the first round the lime 3 were:— Sceptre. 3h 45m 40s; Namu, 3h 4Sm 40s; Rangitiki, 3h 4Sm 50s; Waitoa. 3h 51m 40s; Aratu, 3h 52m 255; Rar.gitira, 31i 54m 50s; Swiftsure. 4h 0m 10s. In the second round Namu gained on Sceptre, while Aratu caught and passed Rangitiki and Waitoa. .The rate started at 3 p.m. The finishing times were: Sceptre (4m), 4h 3Gm 255; IVanvu (scr), 4h 37m 31s- Aratu (2m). 4b 45m 12s; Rangitiki (sm). 4h 49m 595; Waitoa (Gm), 4h 52m -173.- Riyngitira (sm). 4h 54m 4s. Result.—Sceptre. 1; Namu, 2; Aratu, 3. Class T was represented by Menu, Shalimiir, Ramona and Resolute. The boats crossed the line in the order named, and on the beat up the harbour Shalimar went into 1h& lead and once in that position ivas never headed. On the completion of the first round she was 3m 53s ahead of Ramona, which was leading Manu by 8111 12s. Shalimar irhproved her position further in tlie second round, and won easily. The race started at 3.10 p.m. The finishing times were: Shalimar (scr). 4h 47m 445: Ramona (3m). 4h 52m 425; Resolute and Manu did not .finish. Result.—Shalimar, 1; Ramona, 2. RACE FOR CLASS Y. There were five competitors in the race for ,c!ass Y, Cupid, Raliiri 11.. Opah. Fay and Oreti. From a good start Cupid crossed the ]ine first, but did not- hold her position very long, being overtaken by the rest of the'fleet in the beat up the harbour. Opah and Rahiri 11. made a close race of it right round the course. The former had a lead of 40s from Rahiri 11. on the completion of the first round, but in the second round Raliiri reduced the lead to 293. The race started at 3.20 p.m. The finishing times were: Opah (lm), 4h 57m 475; Rahiri 11. (4m), 4h 58m 16s; Fay (3m), 5h 2m 21s- Oreti (12m), 5h 7m 40s; Cupid (am), 5h 19m 545. Result.—Rahiri 11., 1; Oreti, 0; Opah, 3. The last race on the programme was for class V. Crossing the starting-line the order was Wild Wave, Desdemona, Surprise. Scud. Ranni and Avro. Surprise soon took the lead, and when the boats had sailed a short distance Ranui caught Wild Wave and Desdemona on port tack and put them about, which enabled Ranui to get into second place. Surprise established a long ]rad and at the finish of the first round she was 7m 553 ahead of Ranui, which was leading Avro by 2m 51s, and Wild Wave by 5m 20s. Scud was lm 50s astern of Wild Wave. The race started at 3.30 p.m. The finishing times were: Surprise (scr). 51i 9m 335; Panui (pm), 5h lGm lis: Wild Wave (4?m), 5h 23m 4s: Avro, 5h 24m 10a; Desdemona (11m), sli/27m 4s. The Takopuna Boating Club' held two races for class Z on Saturday afternoon over the club's usual course, starting and finishing off the clubhouse. TheSrsl race wa3 for boys which brought out Kitty. Delphine, Me Too, Oi. Trevie, Tio and Joker. From an excellent start the boats ran. close up to the mark at the head of the bay. Here sheets were flattened j and Kitty, which was in the lead, was Piiased by Delphine. Once in the le.ul the ' latter was never headed. The race started at 2.40. The finishing ; times were:—Delphine (scr), ah 31m 15s; ' Kilty (im). 3h 32m 275; Me Too (sm). 3h 32m 51s; Trcvic (sm). 3h 32m 575; Oi (sm), 3h 34m 225: Tio ( lm), 3li 34m 40s; Joker (6m) did not finish.

Result.-/Mo Too, 1; Trevic, 2; < >i, 3. The second race was for senior club members and proved_ very interesting. Tho competitors were: —Kitty (\V. Wiirdell), Mo Too (fi. Mittheson), Oi (I*. F. Carter), Trevic (J. J. Macky). Tio (It. TabuleaiU. From another good start Kitty crossed the line first, ; closely followed by Oi and Me Too. Oi went into (he lead but was passed 'by Kitty, which maintained her position for the remainder- of the course. Before reaching Northcote Oi was overtaken by Me Too. Rounding the rile beacon the order was Kilty, Mo Too, Oi, Tio and Trevic. On the run to the finishing line.a great race was fguffhl out between' Oi and Me Too', the former regaining second position. The order of the boats crossing tho lino was Kitty, Oi, Me Too, Tio, Trevic. Result.—Kitty, 1; Oi, 2; Me Too, 3. All started from scratch at 4 p.m. and no times were taken.

f MOORING AT TAURANGA. BETTER PROVISION ASKED FOR. 1 [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] • TAURANGA, Saturday. At a general meeting of the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club held Isrst evening,- it was decided to ask the Harbour Board to increase and regulato the l>''eherit mooring sites, and also to seQ that all boats aro moored in lines in place of the present indiscriminate mooring. The board is also f/o bo asked to provide steps on tho town wharf for the solo use of pleasure craft. . Tho Mayor, Mr. B. C. Bobbins, presented prizes won at (ho Auckland regatta to boys who sailed seven-footers. The charnIjioii.flag was presented to Roy Pembcrton. r.nd ■ monetary prizes to Ron Pemberlon, R. Alackrcll and •L. Young.

MANUKAU CRUISING CLUB. i HARBOUR RACES" DECIDED. A breeze from the south-west prevailed for the Manukuu Crusing Club's harbour races on Saturday. The yachts were started on the Mark l ; oy system, their handicaps being given at the start. The Inn it boat, Shirley, was sent away at 2h 30s. followed by the Miss Mac. 2h 46m 30s; Vt lh! Wave. 2h 47m 30s: Sea Gnome, 3h 2m 303: Sea Horse, 3h Gm 30s; Sylvia. 3h 10m: Champagne, 3h '3lm 303; and Aoma. 311 13m.' Shirley held her lend until rounding the lop mark where Miss Mac passed her, rounding at 3h aim. followed by Shirley, Wild Wave, Sen Gnome, Chnmpagnc, Aoina, Sylvia, and Sea Horse. The lastnamed retired at this mark. On th<3 bent out the breeze lightened somewhat and positions were altered. Hounding the bottom mark Miss Mac still held her lead, with the rest of the fleet closo up. Spinnakers were set for the run up and being all together the boats made a spectacular sight with the issue in doubt right up to the line. The finishing times were: —Miss Man f2oSin), lh 53m Is; Champagne (15m), 4h 53m 253; Aoma (scr), 4h 54m 0s; Sea Gnome ()o}m), 4h 54m 13s; Sylvia fUrrt), •ih 54m 225; Wild Wave (251 m), 4h 55m 20s: Shirley (43m), 5h 5m 41s. The launches raced uncier sealed handicaps and were sent away at 3.23 p.m., crossing closely in the following order: —Elms, Tawera, Karma, Cremorne, Surprise. The speedy Surprise soon took the lead and opened up u big gap. Karma soon passed Tawera and this order was maintained the first time round. The times turning at the dolphin were -.—Surprise, 3h 35m 15s: Elnia, 31f 41m 14s; Karma, 3h 41m 235; Tawera, 3h 47m; Cremorne, 3h 47m 545. Surprise was finishing as the two limit boats rounded a lap ahead. . . The finish v.'iis timed:—Surprise (scr\ .Hi, 47m; Karma (12m), 3h 59ni 31s; Ehna (IO111). 3h 59m 375; Tawera (23jm), 4h 10111 475: Cremorne "255 m), 4h 12m 31s. Result:—Surprise, 1; Cremorne, 2; Jawera, 3.

The usual model yacht rrce was ljeld. eight entrants sailing a good race, which resulted in a win for Master F. McGuire. TMaster R. McGtiire was second, and Master P. Billings third. The juvenile members' swimming championship of 50yds, for the presented by Mr. J. W. Raylinson. sen., provided a doss race. Muster I'. Billings winning by about 12 inches. The officials in charge of the racing were: —Starter and judge. Mr. P. Auger: timekeepers, Messrs. T. E. Smith and J. C. Sibbin; model yacht superintendent, -Mr. L. Smith.
