A very enjoyable occasion was the members' evening,' which was held by the Alpine Sports Club in Miss Mabel Johnson's ballroom, Omahu Road, Remuera, yesterday. A very varied and particularly interesting programme of entertainment had been arranged, including a travel talk, musical items by Miss Amy Hansard, Miss Joyce O'Hallorap and Mr. Geoffrey C. Laird, a motion picture lecturette, a one-act play and a demonstration of modern ballroom .dancing. Lantern slides added to the interest of the talk given by Mr. S. N. Von Sturmer, who spoke of a holiday tramp on the Coromandel Ranges, some particularly beautiful scenes, being presented. " Rambles Abroad with a Cine-Camera," as told and illustrated by Mr. J. Peacock, was another very interesting item upon the programme. Taking part in the one-act play, a most creditable performance, were Aliss Helen Seabrook, Miss Jowitt. Miss E. V. Macfarlane, Mr. Lan C. Mackay and Mr. S. -N.. Von Stunner. Some very graceful illustrations of the latest ballroom dances were given by Miss Mabel Johnson. Supper was served at the conclusion of the programme, and the remainder of the evening was given over t-o dancing. Mrs. W. J. A. Thomson was the hostess and organiser.
