THE VICTORIA LEAGUE.

WELCOME TO A MEMBER.

A pleasant afternoon was hold a,t the Victoria League yesterday when Mrs. A. A. Edger, one of the original members of tho league, was welcomed on her return from a visit abroad. Tho rooms were attractively decorated with bowls of crimson and yellow dahlias and crimson zinnias. Miss Mowbray, president of tho league, welcomed the guest of honour, and also Mrs. Burgess, president of the New Plymouth Victoria League, Miss Langsford, who has just returned from a visit to England, Mrs. McKerizie, a visitor from Hawke's Bay, and Mrs. Ware, a former resident of Auckland and member of the leaguo, who arrived from England recently on a return visit. Miss Mowbray spoke feelingly of the death which took place this week of Mrs. Archdale Taylor, and members stood in silence as a mark of respect. Speaking of her travels abroad, Mrs. Edger told of tho warm welcome she had received from tho Victoria Leagues in Melbourne and in England. She also briefly described the annual meeting which was held in the Guildhall in London, and which she attended as a deputy from Auckland. Mrs. Burgess, of New Plymouth, described the wreath composed entirely of native flora which had been sent by her branch to be placed on the Cenotaph in London on Anzac Day. This tho New Plymouth league has done for two years, and in future it will be undertaken each year by different branches.

A letter was read during tho afternoon from Mr. and Mrs. Philip Luckio, two old and valued members, who had presented the league with some handsome silverware.

At the close of tho gathering afternoon tea was served by the following hostesses: Mrs. John Reid, Mrs. A. Devore, Mrs. Marler, Mrs. Palmer, senr., Mrs. Somers, Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, Airs. L. l S. Rickerby, Miss Gerrard, Miss Kent, Miss Iveesing and Miss Slator.
