MATERIAL IN AUSTRALIA.
REPORT OF COMMITTEE.

A committee was'appointed last year to inquire into the possibility of the manufacture of finished paper in.New South Wales from waste wheat and rice straw. The committee now reports that an extensive and profitable industry could be established based on the use of the materials named. After allowing for othe needs 750,000 tons of wheat straw are avail"^That" I quantity would produco 330.000 tons of paper of a value of more than £10,000.000, or much more than the consumption requirements ot Australia and New Zealand. Good cartridge paper could be made from rice straw. 9
