DINGWALL ORPHANAGE.

BUILDINGS AT PAPATOETOE. OPENING ON THURSDAY. The official opening ceremony of the Dingwall Presbyterian at I'apatoetoe will bo held at 2.30 on Thursday afternoon. The opening ceremony will be performed by Professor W. Hewitson, of .Duncdin, moderator of the General Assembly and a former master of Knox College. Thursday is considered a most appropriate dale for the opening of the new orphanage, as it is tho anniversary of the birthday of the late Mr. David M. Dingwall, under whose bequest the orphanage has been established. Tho buildings which comprise tho orphanage have the apperxance of a model garden suburb, set in a rural landscape. There aro three house-blocks grouped round the assembly hall, the graceful spire of which dominates the entire block. All the buildings are in red brick and_ make a most attractive sight against a background of green fields. Each house-block is really an institution in itself — a homo for 20 children with their house mother and assistant house mother. There are separate wings in each for boys and girls and also a sitting room, living room, dining room, kitchen and sewing room. Modern appointments are installed throughout. Other buildings in the group are the hospital block, which is a most self-con-tained institution, the groundsman's cottage and the laundry block. Provision has been made for the addition of two or three more house-blocks when tliey are needed. Tho grounds attached to the orphanage comprise 42 acres. There is all the space required for adequate playingfields and in addition sufficient for a model farm, which, it is hoped, will give tho children an interest in agriculture, as well as providing much of the produce required for running tho orphanage. The Presbyterian Church in Auckland now controls three orphanages, tho Leslie Orphanage at Meadowbank and the Onehunga Orphanage, which are both, under tho control of the social service committee, and the Dingwall Orphanage, which will be administered by tho Dingwall trustees, of which body Mr. J. W. Ryburn is chairman.
