STRUGGLE FOR BOOKS.
SCENES AT TRADES HALL.:
THREAT TO EJECT POLICE
There were wild scenes at a special meeting of the Breadcarters' Union in the Sydney Trades Hall recently. The trouble arose put of a faction fight between the followers of the secretary, Mr. A. Tinning, and the supporters of Mr. L. Webster, who was a candidate for Mr. Tinning's position.
The right of the minute secretary, who had possession of the books, to retain them was. challenged by the opposing minute secretary, and as the books were not surrendered a scuffle ensued. Ihe books were carried out of the meeting-room Into the corridors, and they changed hands several times. An official fled with documents into the street, with members in pv-rsuit. An attempt was made by Mr. J. S. Garden, who was attending a meeting of the Labour Council, to have the police removed from the hall. When the police disregarded Mr. Garden's instructions to leave, a threat was made that the delegates from the Labour Council would "throw them out." The delegates, however refrained from carrying the threat into effect.
