EMPIRE FREE TRADE.
LORD ROTHERMERE'S VIEWS.
VISITOR TO NEW YORK. (Received January 16, 7.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 15. Lord Rothermere arrived in New York to-day from England. In the course of an interview he stated that substantially, but not completely, he endorsed Lord Beaverbro'ok's Empire free trade policy. He was opposed to any move to impose duties on agricultural products. The visitor went on to say he did not believe the Empire could be made one economic unit "at one jump." That would come, if it came at all, by . stages. At present ho was concentrating his efforts on securing a high protective tariff for Britain on manufactured goods, with no suggestion of an impost on foodstuffs.
