THE AUCKLAND CENTRE.
CARNIVAL DATES ARRANGED
The Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association met last evening, the chairman, Mr. J. Enwright, presiding. The transfer of M. Honeyfield from the Parnell to the Waitemata Club was approved. The following clubs were granted permission to hold carnivals:—Waitemata, December 17; North Shore, December 14. The secretary of the New Zealand Council wrote stating that he had been directed to convey to the centre the congratulations of the council on the outstanding work carried out by the centre's educational officer, Mr. L. Brighton, during the past It was decided to place on record the fine performance of G. Bridson in lowering the quarter-mile New Zealand record on Tuesday evening. t _ The change of the name of the Devonpcrt. Club to North Shore and the alteration of the club's colours was approved. Exemption was granted to the University Club from holding a carnival before January 14 as required by the rules of the centre. A donation of three guineas was made to the Roll of Honour Jund. Mr. L. Brighton reported that 600 copies of the New Zealand Swimming Association's report on the educational work for 1929 would be distributed to schools. V A flat rate of two shillings for adults and one shilling for children was fixed as the price of admission to the carnivals at which the Australian champions Noel Ryan and Owen Griffiths will take part next week. Messrs. J. Enwright, H. Moore, C. Welson and E. Cunnold were appointed an entertr.inment committee. Jf was decided to osk tho Mayor, Mr. G-. Baildon, to tender awelcome to the visitors at the first carnival to be held on Wednesday evening. A 200 yds. reisy race was included on the second night's programme in place of the dual relay event., " .
CLUB CHANGES NAME.
The Devonport. Amateur Swimming Club held a meeting to discuss a notice of motion to change its name to tho North Slioro Amateur Club, in order to incorporate Cheltenhavn. Takapuna and jiclmont. J.UO motion was passed. It was decided to hold galas this season, tho first being set down for December 14 at, Narrow Neck.' There will be nine races and a polo match. , , The committee resolved to. change the club colours from green and white to royal blue with white stripes. Mrs. Sharp and Mrs. Farquhnrson presented two cups to be awarded to the most consistent boy and girl swimmer. , The secretary reported that the Devonport Borough Council had donated £5 toward repairing tho diving pontoons at Cheltenham Beach.
