The worst earthquake felt in the past three months shook Westport about 3.45 a.m. yesterday. It was heralded by loud rumblings.
The houses in the town were shaken violently. Crockery rattled, and in some houses it fell on the floor. The shake lasted almost a minute, and finished with a nasty twisting-movement. About 11 o'clock on .Friday night a very loud booming was beard, but no earthquake accompanied the noise. Many people yesterday were feeling nervous as the result of the morning's tremor.

CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday.
A fairly pronounced earthquake was recorded at the Christchurch observatory at 3.44 a.m. yesterday. The records show that the duration was just under a minute. The movement was sufficient to cause electric lights to swing from, north to south, but there was no twisting motion as recorded at Westport.- ' The origin of the tremor lay to. tha north-west of Christchurch. Mr. H. F. Skey, director of the observatory, said he was of opinion that the shock had its centre between Greymouth and Murchison. It was not very serious, however, even at the place of
origin. . ' The shock was not felt at Arthur's Pass. Many people in the city were wakened by the shock, but so far as is known no damage was done.

TREMORS AT ROTORUA.
TARAWERA AND WAIM ANGIT.

A slight earthquake tremor was felt at 2.20 p.m. at Waimangu and the Tarawera lakeside to-day. Three sharp shocks were felt in Rotorua at about 5.15 p.m. One shock was fairly severe. No damage resulted. * '
