"DOG EATS DOG."

AN AMUSING INCIDENT.

Tho old saying that "dog will not eat dog" was somewhat falsified by an incident which occurred in a Gisborne music shop last weok. This firm holds tho agency for a well-known mako of gramophones, whoso brand is the familiar picture of a terrier, "Nipper." The proprietors of the shop havo an extremely lifeliko model of Nippor, done in plaster, and for some time past tho assistants have noticed frequent visits to tho shop and close scrutiny of the model by an apparently well-bred dog, also of tho terrier type. Last weok this dog again visited the shop and, apparently having satisfied himself that "Nipper" was genuine, made a bound at it and bit off cleanly tho nose of the model.
