BOULEVARD FORMATION.
PROPOSAL AT WHANGAREI.
" UGLY ROADS " CRITICISED.
[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WHANGAREI. Tuesday.
When a subdivision plan for Gibson s property, Powhiri Avenue, was before the Whangarei Borough Council for final approval last evening Sir. L. J. Brake voiced a strong plea for boulevard roads for suburban areas. He said a halt should be called in the construction of ygly roads, and the cheaper and better boulevards substituted. Mr. Tj. T. Pickmore said he agreed with this. He instanced the case of Central Avenue, which, ho said, besides being more attractive cost less in upkeep than any street carrying the same amount of traffic. Mr. E. G. A. Tibbits said he understood that in tho present instance a large expenditure for carting soil would be necessary to convert tho proposed road into a bpulcvard. It was decided that the Mayor and deputy-mayor endeavour to have the plan altered to allow of a boulevard road, and if arrangements h.'ul already 1 gone too far, to sanction the prior proposal.
