THE MUNICIPAL BAND. ROADS LOAN PROPOSAL. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUKEKOHE, Thursday. The Pukokoho Municipal Band held its annual meeting last evening, the president, Mr. J. P. Rats presiding over a good atetndance. v The president reported that the past year had proved a successful one, quite a large number of engagements, both locally and in outside districts, having been undertaken. Comment on the music rendered had been pleasing. The executive was arranging to hold a contest for the members of the band, and this would take place in the near future. A beginners' class was being conducted for a number of young players-, who would shortly be playing with the band. The finaucial statement, pi'esented by the secretary, Mr J. Meyer, showed income during the year £93 4s 7d, a!nd expenditure £BO 18s sd, leaving a balance of £l2 6s 2d to be transferred to the accumulated fund. This now totalled £237 15s lOd, of which the bandroom and furnishings comprised £l73'6s 6d and cash in bank £64 9s 4d.
Officers were elected for the ensuing yeat as follpws:—President, Mr. Rae; vice-piesidents, Messrs. J. H. Webb and J. Patterson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Meyer; band representatives on the executive, Messrs. G. Armstrong. F. J. Morrow and E. Pook; auditors, Messrs. J. F. Deane and M. S. Campbell; bandmaster, Mr. L. Holt; sergeant, Mr. C. F. Deed; corporal, Mr. R. Myers; lancecorporal, Mr. R. Deed; librarian, Mr. Cliff Deed, members of bandsmen's committee, Messrs. Pook. H. Sutton and R. Begbie. Four medals awarded for merit in the beginners' class, one by Mr. Webb one by Mr. F. Perkins, and two by the executive, were presented to Messrs. G. Lakeman, R. Deed, R. Myers and K. Lakeman.
A poli of the ratepayers of Pukekohe Borough is to be taken on Wednesday next on the proposal to borrow a further £6OOO for road and footpath work. » The Pukekohe Fire Board's proposal to borrow £3400 for the erection of an up-to-date fire station has been approved by the Local Bodies Loans Board, and it is expected that the work of building tho station will shortly be put in hand.
