BANK CLERK ARRESTED.

CHARGE OF FORGING DRAFT.

SUM OF £4700 INVOLVED. YOUNG MAN REMANDED. Arrested on Thursday evening, Samuel Fabian Wills, aged 21, a bank clerk (Mr. Indrr). appeared in the Police Court yesterday charged with forging the names of J MeWilliams and M Pocock to a draft for £47 CO and causing the Bank of New South Wales to act upon it as genuine. Chief-Detective Hammond said accused was employed in the Auckland branch of the bank. Ho had forged the names to the draft and had collected the money, lie was on lenvo from tho bank at present. When arrested ho had £375 in his possession and had deposited between £SOOO and £4OOO in various banks in tho city.

Accused was remanded until next Friday. No request was made for bail.

Wills was arrested by Detectives Power and Allsop as ho was about -to leave a house in Parnell. Inquiries were set on foot when acknowledgment of the draft was received from the New Plymouth bank by t-.io Auckland branch Suspicion fell on i. member of tho staff, and tho matter was placed in tho hands of the police on Thursday.

The total amount, with tho exception of about £IOO, has been recovered.
