RAILWAY TO PAPAKURA.

REQUEST FOR DUPLICATION.

DELAYS DUE ON SINGLE TRACK.

Two desirable railway improvements were brought under the notice of the Hon. G. W. Forbes, Minister of Lands and Agriculture, during his South Auckland tour, yesterday. The Papakura Chamber of Commerce urged that the duplication of the seven miles of single track between Papatoetoe and Papakura should bo immediately undertaken now that men were available from the Westfield deviation work. It was stated Papakura had a good service, but the timetable was subject to frequent dislocations owing to 70 trains daily having to be handled on the single track.

The Minister said he would refer tho matter to the Minister of Railways. "It is certainly primitive," agreed Mr. Forbes, after viewing the waiting accommodation at the Paerata station, which is the junction of the Main Trunk and Waiuku branch lines. A deputation of residents pointed out that the waiting shed had to serve both for tho storage of goods' and for tho public. It was also desired that the present inadequate lighting by oil lamps should be replaced by electricity, which could be conveniently installed as the power lines adjoined the station yard. The Minister again undertook to direct the attention of the Minister of Railways to the representations.
