TOWN BOARD DISCORD.
SITTING MEMBER'S CLAIM.
DISCUSSION AT PAPAKURA. An unusual position arose during discussion on the report of tho Finance Committee of the Papakura Town Board last evening, when a claim for a reduction in costs by a sitting member, Mr. W. Rhind, camo before the board. Mr. Rhind had written to the committee asking for reconsideration of a charge of several pounds made for a crossing to his business premises. He claimed a reduction on tho ground of previous work dono and materials supplied by him for tho crossing some years previously.
Several members of the board hold that Mr. Rhind could not well sit as a member of the board while his claim was being discussed. Tho Rev. W. 0. Wood, chairman of tho Finance Committee, protested against the matter being again referred to tlio committee. Members considered that tho board would lay itself open to severe criticism if tho claim, for a small sum, were allowed. The actual work which Mr. Rhind had done dated from before the war, and was described as being a question of "ancient history." Tho board finally decided to charge the full amount, Mr. Rhind being tho only dissentient.
