QUALITY OF GRASS SEED.
EXPERIMENTER'S STATEMENT POVERTY BAY PROTEST. [BY TELEGRAM.— PRESS ASSOCIATION-] GISBORNE, Friday. With reference to Mr. Bruce Levy's statement that Hawke's Bay is the only disLrict able to produce true perennial ryegrass seed, it is stated that Poverty Bay seed, which is always regarded as tho best obtainable and has commanded the highest price, was not included in the tests conducted at Palmerston North by Mr. Bruce Levy. Local growers contend that the statement is in this respect misleading, and detrimental lo the Poverty Bay product. WRONG IMPRESSION CREATED. EXPLANATION BY MR. LEVY. [HY TELEGRAM.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMEItSTON NORTH, Friday. In reply to the protest at Gisborno concerning Mr. Bruce Levy s pronouncements on perennial ryegrass, it is stated by Mr. Levy that all the ryegrass grown oil the east coast was referred to as Hawke's Bay rye in, tho experimental plots at the research*station. It was the grouping of the Poverty Bay rye under the heading of Hawke's Bay that led to the wrong impression created in Gisborne.
