THE HOSPITAL LEVY.

PRESENT SYSTEM OPPOSED. COUNTY COUNCIL'S PROTEST. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] AYHAXGAREI, Friday. The Whangarei County Council is considerably perturbed at the levy made by the Whangarei Hospital Board, which this year amounts to £5866. Last year the levy was £4456. The council decided today to bring under the notice of the Counties' Association the inequitable system at present in operation, with a. view to having the matter brought, under the notice of the Minister of Health. The matter was fully discussed at the last counties' conference but, although the conference was unanimous against the present system, nothing has ueen done. Members considered the contributions should be based half on population and half on capital values. One member urged that all hospital costs should be met out of the Consolidated Fund.
