EDUCATION CHANGES.
VIEWS OF HEADMASTERS, CLASSES NEED REDUCING. TRAINING OF ADOLESCENTS. That tho most pressing need in the primary schools at tho present time is a reduction in tho size of many of the classes was the view expressed in a resolution passed by tho Auckland Headmasters' Association at the annual meeting last evening. The association, by resolution, also oxpressed the opinion that whatever form tho reorganisation of tho present educational system might take, it was in tho interests of the children that they should continuo from tho ago of 11 to 15 in tho charge of the experienced teachers now carrying on tho primary school work. It was pointed out that tho teachers who vero most qualified by experience and training to bring on tho children of these ages were tho head teachers and tho teachers of standards five and six. A further resolution passed was that tho suggested division of children from tho age of 11 into four groups for tho purpose of commencing specialised work in commercial, industrial, agricultural and academic courses was not desirablo in tho pre-adolescent stages. The meeting was addressed by Mr. C. W. Garrard, senior inspector, on tho spirit of tho new syllabus, which gave rise to the discussion preceding the carrying of the resolutions. Mr. F. A. Garry was elected president for the ensuing year, Mr. P. J. Hook jyid Mr. T. Turbott vice-presidents, and Mr. J. McGechio secretary.
