Chinese nationals in South Africa have issued a strong protest through Mr. Lui Ngai, tho Consul General for China, against being classed as "coloured people" in the Union. I3y order of the Chinese Government Mr. Ngai has addressed a communication to the Minister of tho Interior detailing tho Chincso grievances in South Africa which, ho says, "directly or indirectly vitally affect their right of citizenship and cause irreparably loss and damage on their part, particularly under tho term 'coloured person.' " Pleading for a full recognition of rights for Chinamen, tho same as for nationals of oilier foreign nations friendly with Britain and South Africa, Mr. Ngai continues, "Tho turn of events in China lias taken a dramatic change during later years to stabilise tho constitutional life of tho country, and it is the object and policy of my Government, in carrying out the doctrines laid down by tho late Dr. Sun Yat Sen, to nbnigato all unequal treaties, to bring China and her people to tho same footing internationally with other countries, and not neglect to uplift, and emancipate all smaller and oppressed nations in tho common cause of world peace,"
