THEFT FROM STRONGROOM.
BURGLARS USE EXPLOSIVES. NEWTON ICE-CREAM FACTORY. Using gelignite, burglars blew open the strongroom in the office of Robinson's ire cream factory in Waima Street, Nekton, early yesterday morning, and stole £ls from the cash-boxes. Two neighbours heard the explosion, and, on going to the factory, found everything in order from outside. It is surmised that the thieves were then still in the building. The burglars gained entrance by breaking a lock on a folding iron door on the street. They worked thoroughly and so carefully packed the explosive that it completely wrecked the mechanism of the strongroom door, which was then easily opened. The door is 6in. thick, and 6ft. high. Apart from a few smears of putty, which had been used to pack the gelignite, there was nothing to show that anything had happened to the door when it was surveyed from outside.
