PEACE IN IRELAND.
HIS MAJESTY'S INITIATIVE.
SMUTS ON THE DUBLIN STORY.
Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received February 3, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 2
General Smuts, Leader of tho Opposition in South Africa, was invited by a London newspaper to comment on the Dublin Star's version of the Irish negotiations, and the redrafting of King George's speech at tho opening of the Parliament of Northern Ireland in June, 1921. In reply he cabled that he had no desire to make a statement at present. The Star's report was inaccurate in some respects. The true story was far more interesting, and reflected the greatest credit on His Majesty.for his inspired initiative on a critical occasion.
General Smuts said the Dublin story was obviously written by someone who was little in tho know. Tho truo version was wonderful, but ho could not tell secrets.
