SPECIAL EXCURSION TRAINS. CAMPING SITES IN BOROUGH. POPULARITY OF THE MOUNT. [BY TELEGRAFH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURAiN'GA. Wednesday. There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Tanranga Chamber of Commerce, Mr. G. T. Wright pre siding. The secretary, Mr. B. C. Robbins, in reporting in regard to railway excursions to Tanranga, said (he first week-end excursion from Auckland was fixed for December 8. There would also be excursion trains for the regatta on December 27, and two Sunday excursions during January from ns f;i r as Huntly. There would also be a New Year excursion from Hamilton, and school children's excursions from various provincial centres, and further excursions up to Easier. Tho secretary outlined in detail a proposal for holding a winter show and shopping week next May. Ho said ho was assured of tho co-operation of tho Railways Department, and was confident of success, provided the support of all sections qf tho community was forthcoming. Various speakers strongly supported the proposal and the meeting appointed a committee to go into the schemti and report to the next meeting of the chamber. Mr. A. J. Merrilees reported that the Government cinematofjraphist had visited Tauranga recently and obtained some splendid pictures. Mr. Messenger, of tho Publicity Department, would bo asked to allow the unematographers to make another visit to take flms of the regatta and also of the Mount Maunganui resort.

Improving Train Service. It wa3 decided to rnako representations to the Railways Department for a train service eastwards to enable people to leave Tanranga in the morning and return tho same evening. A shelter at the Strand railway station was also desired

The question of fixing » date for the official opening in connection with the completion of considerable improvements to Kairnai Koad Mas referred to a special committee, which will communicate with local bodies at. Matamata and ask them to suggest a suitable date, if possible before Christmas.

Tho toiliist committee reported that it had interviewed the committee set up by the Borough Council, and tho result had been the decision oi tho council to set aside camping sites st the eastern end of Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Avenues. Arrangements had been made for the provision of conveniences. A caretaker would be appointed. Appreciation was expressed of tho action of the Borough Council in installing an electric hot-water service in the Domain for picnic parties on sports days. This service proved its value on the occasion of tho united friendly societies' gathering last Saturday. It v.as decided to renew application for a pillar letter-box in Dcvouport Koad. The postmaster at Tauranga advised that the chamber's letter urging completion of telephone connections between Tauranga and Matamata had been forwarded to the I'ostniaster-General. An Attractive Resort.

Mount Maunganui promises to attract a record number of visitors in the holiday season. This i t sort possesses ono of the best and safest suiting beaches in .New Zealand, tfte accommodation has been considerably increased recently, and the bowli jig greens, croquet lawns and tennis courts are all in excellent order for the coaiing season. Good sea fishing is always obtainable in the vicinity ol this favourite holiday resort. The annual report and balance-sheet of the Mount Maungan.ii Domain Board, presented to tho board tins week, states that the proposed operations for the ensuing year include the erection of further bathing shelters and additional conveniences. The board has madf arrangements lor the collection of fees ior camping sites at tho Mount. Tho board decided to communicate with Tauranga Harbour Board asking that motor-cycio racing bo restricted to the bef.ch area eastward of Moturiki Island, and not on the area of tho surfing beach, between Moturiki Island and the base of Mount Mauriganui. About. 25 members of Uotorua Motorcycle Club visited Tauranga and Mount Maunganui at the week-end. '1 wo motorcycle races were held at Mount Maunganui, the winners being T. Woollams and W. McLeod (Tauranga). A number of Tauranga cyclists intend visiting Rotorua next week-end in order to be present at tho opening of tho now motor-racing track.

Mr. B. C. Robbins presided at tho annual meeting of the Tauranga Co-opera-tive Building Society. The chairman stated that although no levy bad been made for working expenses the society had made a fair profit on the year's business. Messrs. B C. Robbins and S. GWillcock, the two retiring directors, were re-elected, there being no other nominations Mr. It. L. Thomas was re elected auditor.
