A further indication of the progress of the dairy farming industry on the Ilanraki IM'iins is afforded in the request of Kerepeehi settlers to the Now Zealand Dairy Co-operative Company for the erection of a choose factory. Mr. W. Kirkman, superintendent to the company, explained at a meeting that a six-vat factory would cost 19200, and a four-vat faclory £BBOO. The year 1927 had disclosed that as far as the company's factories were concerned cheese had been worth ljd per lb. more, to the supplier than butter. Tho meeting discussed the reopening_of a cheese factory a; Ncthertoii, which had been closed for some time. Mr. W. Hale, one of the directois of tlio New Zealand Dairy Company, favoured the proposal, saving that the Netherton factory could bo made ready for use within six weeks. He pointed out that for the season to date a ,'SO per cent, increase in tho manufcctuio of cheese had been recorded for the Dominion, compared with the corresponding period last year. Final I v Messrs. IJ. Mcintosh, D. Shilton and" C. I'earco were appointed to gather further information and a meeting will bo called for March of next year.
