OPERATIC SOCIETY.

DEBUT OF NEW ORCHESTRA.

Memories of the earlier part of this Year's production wore recalled last evening by the members of the Auckland Amateur Operatic Society when the delightful music of "The Belle of New York " was played during the final social and dance of the society before it goes into recess. The oppoitunit-v was also taken to welcome back the secretary of the society, Mr. 11. Goldie, who has been abroad. An interesting feature of the evening was the debut of the society's new amateur orchestra under the leadership of Mr. Percy Richards, and when the popular numbers wore sung by the audience while the orchestra played it was almost possible to picture the society's stage presentation of the opera so delightful was the whole effect. Mrs. Eva Simson and Mr. Ernest Sncll sang one of the duets, as did Mrs. A. Simmers and Mr. R. Fenwick, while the housemaids' fhorus was given by girl;, in costume.

Carson, who wore a frock of silver lace with a cerise shoulder flower; Miss Irene Tanner, cream lace frock mounted over cameo pink s.atin; Miss Jean Carson, black georgette and lace over gold lame: Miss G. Ryan, apricot georgette with hem of silver lace; Miss Mnsker, black erepo de chine and apricot shawl; Miss W. Crosher, larkspur blue taffeta; Miss Audrey Perry, green taffeta; Mrs. D. McGregor, flame geogette embroidered with silver beads; Miss R. McGregor, ivorv frilled georgette; Miss. M.
