FEDERAL ELECTION.

GOVERNMENT'S MAJORITY.

LABOUR'S WIN IN TASMANIA.

(Received November 27, 11.23 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 27

Dr. Earle Page, Federal Treasurer, predicts (hat the Government should have a majority of 13 or 15 in the House of Representatives, which is more satisfactory than was at first anticipated. The only seat in doubt in Queensland is iri the Herbert constituency, where Dr. L. W. Nott (Nationalist) is less than 100 votes behind his Labour opponent Mr. G. W. Martens. There are less than 1000 votes to be checked. Dr. Nott will probably bo defeated, but a recount is inevitable.

In Tasmania Sir John Gelibrand (Nationalist) has been defeated by the Labour nominee, Mr. C. E. Culley, for tho Denison seat. Mr. Culley's majority is 123.

Labour has won two out of the five Tasmanian seats formerly held by Ministerial ists in the House of Representatives.

The results of the contests still in doubt should be known on Wednesday.
