AMERICA AND CHINA.
OWN POLICY PURSUED. INDEPENDENT OF POWERS. LATEST DIPLOMATIC MOVE. Australian nnd N.X. Press Arsocintion. (Received November '27, 7.25 p.m.) ■WASHINGTON, Nov. M Officials of the .State Department to-day denied having received any information from liritaiii or from Japan, as intimated in despatches from London, of an understanding having been reached between those two countries relative to a co-opera-tivo policy in China. Although comment was withheld it is not considered probable that the. United States would be concerned about co-opera-tion among Iho Powers interested in China, provided that nothing were done to interfere \wtli the "open door" policy.
It is pointed out that the United States Government recently pursued its own policy in China, independent of other countries, in connection with tho new tariff treaty signed in July, and in regard to her recognition of the. Nationalists at the end of September. The American Government now li.*|s under favourable consideration a request to raise the American Legation at Peiping (formerly I'eking) to an Embassy.
