PICKED UP IN A RIVER. PURCHASED FOR £4500. * [l-ROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]< CAPETOWN. Oct. 12. A diathond weighing 282 carats, and one of the biggest finds in tho Kimberley alluvial diggings for a long time, was recently picked tip by a native in tho river bed at Bad Hope, Barkly West district. It was handed over by tho native to his masters and sold later for £4500. Tho stone is almost the sizo of an hen's egg and is octahedron in shape. If it had been puro wliito it would probably have been worth £25,000.
