AUCKLAND JUBILEE FIXTURE.

SPLENDID STOCK EXHIBITS.

WIDE RANGE OF ATTRACTIONS.

At tho Epsom Show .Grounds yesterday tho stago was boing set for tho great jubilee show and carnival of tho Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association to take place to-day and to-morrow. By special stock trains scores of superb animals seeking JSorth Island championship and lesser honours ■ arrived during the day, to tako their placo in the judging rings this mor'ning, and there was a groat influx of show visitors from all over tho North Island. Tho excursion fares available throughout the provinco will bo widely taken advantago of. Among tho features of an aggregate increase in entries is tho greater interest in homo industries brought about by tho special prizes offered by tho Auckland Gas Company and Auckland Electric Power Board for tho fruit cake section. The companies aro offering respectively a gas stovo and an electric stove for the, best fruit cake cooked in tho first case by gas, and in the second by electricity. There aro 59 entries for tho former and 18 for tho latter.

Among jthe horses to be shown aro Scottish and English-bred draughts, and tho jumpers include tho North Island's best known performers. Tho cattle and sheep divisions aro productive of competition representative of tho very best stock in tho island, and in some of tho dairy sections interest will be added by virtue of tho fact that costly importations will meet before judges for tho first time. Tho Auckland Kennel Club's Show, to bo held in conjunction with the major fixture, will claim tho attention of all visitors to Epsom during tho two days' carnival.

From 10 o'clock this morning judging will be proceeded with in all divisions, and in the afternoon thero will be a number of interesting horse leaping events. They will include tho maiden hunters' competition, which has attracted 16 entries, tho wire jump, with 15 entries, and novelty equestrian events. The first and second heats in the,two wood-chop-ping events will be decided during the afternoon.

People's Day—to-morrow—is rich in the spectacular. The morning will bo busy wirh horse competitions, including those for trotters and pacers, light and heavyweight hunters, and boy and girl riders. The high jump will commence at one o'clock and the grand parade at 1.30. The finals of tho woodchopping events, varied displays by tho Mounted Rifles, and tho steer riding competition at 3.30, will provide an afternoon brimful of interest.

Late entries of stock for the Whangarei Spring Show make the completed figures show a very satisfactory increase on those for last year. The corrected figures, with those for 1927 in parentheses, aro:— Horses, 335 ( 260) • cattle, 247 (213); sheep, 223 (204) ; pigs, 39 (39). The entries for tho floral section close on Saturday.
