"A FAIR CATCH"
INTO THE ARMS OF POLICE. SHOPBREAKING ATTEMPT. Stepping out of tho doorway of tho shop of P. C. Boyle, ironmonger, 41, Victoria. Street, City, in tho early hours of tho morning of October 16, John Graham, aged 45, a cook, walked almost into the arms of Sergeant Burnett, who was patrolling tho area. Charged in tho Polic.p Court yesterday with having broken tho shop's lock with intent to enter the place, Graham pleaded guilty and admitted a further count involving tho theft of a tyre lever and an overcoat from a motorcar standing unattended in a side street* "A fair catch, sergeant; tho gamp is up," Graham was stated to havo remarked to Sergeant Burnett when caught. Later, at tho central station, accused said ho was drunk and took the coat and tyre lever tho previous day. On leaving homo in the early morning ho took tho lever with him, and when ho got to Boyle's shop door lie used it to remove an iron clasp On the first charge accused was committed to tho Supremo Court for sentence, while on the second he was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment.
